5) What if microbes are attached to dust particles?

The ALL●AIR™ application methodology of providing a complete air purification solution that treats all the air on each air pass addresses in-flight killing of airborne microorganisms, UVC irradiation of the HVAC Cooling Coil and Air Filter Bank. The air chamber is lined with the ALL●AIR™ High Reflectance UV Coated panels that amplifies the amount of UVC light to a desirable UVC dosage level to effectively kill >99% of airborne pathogens in flight. With respect to microbes on dust particles which in themselves are large and easily trapped on the air filters, which are readily killed by UVC irradiation. This is why an ALL●AIR™ install can provide a high single pass kill >99% on most airborne microbes and all of the organic material within the HVAC cooling coil.

9) What is UVC?

Short-wave ultraviolet radiation, in the "C" band (200 to 280 nanometers) has been used for over 100 years. UV-C (UVC) is also referred to as UVGI (ultraviolet germicidal irradiation). This "C" part of the UV family has germicidal affects, especially the 253.7 nanometer frequency. UVC penetrates the outer structure of the cell and alters the DNA molecule, preventing replication and causing cell death.

10) Does UV work?

UV has been proven under numerous independent studies for its ability to destroy the DNA of microorganisms : viruses, mold, spores, fungi, and bacteria.Yes, thousands of references to this efficacy can be found in literature and in actual applications. The most recent literature provided by L2B Environmental Systems Inc., shows 3rd party results from in-house testing on Bacillus subtilis and is included in its newer catalogs. UVC is used worldwide, for wastewater, HVAC, food and medical applications.

11) Has UV technology been tested ?

Yes. Westinghouse Electric, General Electric, and Penn State University conducted laboratory tests on the effectiveness of UV light on microorganisms. UV light has also been used in wastewater plants and commercial settings for over 60 years. Recent studies are proving the UV technology effective against biological terrorist attacks and for reducing sickness due to airborne pollutants.

12) Who is L2B Environmental Systems Inc ?

A manufacturer of patented air purification systems with global applications. Air purification systems utilize air filtration, germicidal UVC lamps, advanced high reflectance UVC surface coating technology, and light activated photo-catalytic purifying. Applications vary from residential, commercial ,institutions and hospitals

13) Will it help allergies?

Bioaerosol related allergies such as asthma have shown abatement and noticeable remission when UVC products are used in residential and commercial HVAC equipment.

To Top

14) How much UV exposure is considered safe?

The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) has established safe exposure levels for each type of UV. These safe exposure limits are set below the levels found to cause eye irritation, eye being the body part most sensitive to UV. For germicidal UV (253.7nm) the exposure limit is less than 0.2µW/cm² over 8 hours.

15) Why not use ozone generating air cleaners?

The EPA and American Lung Association are strongly against the use of ozone indoors. It has been determined that ozone is corrosive to lung tissue. In addition, ozone is known to be very corrosive to certain materials and can damage your HVAC system.

16) Does a UVC germicidal lamp system replace filters?

No. It is very important that an air purification system combine the synergistic advantages of UVC and air filtration. Lethal UVC dosages for various microorganisms are well known, with viruses and most bacteria being readily killed with moderate UVC exposure. The exception is mold spores which require higher UVC dosages but because of their size they are easily trapped on the air filters. The ALL●AIR™ Whole Home Air Purification System irradiates all the air filters killing all trapped mold spore microorganisms.

17) Don't filters remove Microorganisms?

Yes, for an infectious disease application the efficiency and location of air filtration should always be a concern. Air filters are designed to trap and hold particulate that can harbor disease causing pathogens. ALL●AIR™ irradiates ("washes") the air filters with ultraviolet light to kill all trapped microorganisms thereby reducing the biohazard risk when handling dirty filters.

To Top

18) Don’t air filters eliminate germs?

Air filters do trap microbes; but even the most sophisticated air filters do not contain 100% of the germs. Microorganisms not trapped will reproduce very quickly and contaminate the indoor environment. In some cases the air filters become breeding grounds for new colonies of germs.

To Top

19) Why do I need an ALL●AIR™ Whole Home Air Purifier if I already have a filter?

A filter will trap and hold the particulate in the air stream, but does not have an effect i.e .destroy the trapped contaminants, that include viruses, bacteria, mold and off-gases. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the World Health Organization (WHO) structure indoor air contamination into 3 categories ... 1) PARTICULATE ... which is made up of airborne dust and dirt that gets trapped on a filter. 2) Bioaerosols which are living microbes that include viruses, bacteria and mold, which can be addressed with germicidal ultraviolet light disinfection. 3) Volatile Organic Compounds like odors, fumes, off-gases can be destroyed using photo-catalytic oxidation. The ALL●AIR™ Whole Home Air Purifier addresses all of the above airborne contaminants beyond what any filter product can offer. The ALL●AIR™ system kills airborne pathogens and destroys VOC's that threaten the health of your family's health.

20) Why HVAC Cooling Coil irradiation?

Cooling coil irradiation is important to both residential and commercial applications. UVC irradiation of the cooling coil kills surface contamination on the coil surface and drip pan and prevents contaminated air from being reintroduced to the occupied areas of the building. For indoor air quality (IAQ) a clean coil provides improved heat transfer, reduced maintenance, odor control and the other health related advantages. The factory should always size commercial applications involving infectious disease applications.

21) Is UVC harmful?

Prolonged, direct exposure to UVC light is harmful to all living organisms, including people. However, the ALL●AIR™ UV system has been designed with safety in mind, and includes a number of safety features to turn the lamps off under standard maintenance procedures. UVC does not have the penetrating power of UV-A & UV-B.

To Top

22) Does the ALL●AIR™ Whole Home Air Purifier operate continuously?

Yes. The ALL●AIR™ works 24 hours a day to purify the indoor air. This is not true with some other air cleaners that turn on and off with the HVAC blower motor.

To Top

23) Should the UVC lamps be cycled with the fan or run continuously?

When all things are considered, the best case is for running them continuously. Also, when the UVC germicidal lamps and power supply performance and life are considered, they run better and longer when running continuously.

To Top

24) What is the difference between an ALL●AIR™ PURIFIER and an air filter?

An air filter is designed to trap and hold particulate from the air (i.e. dust and dirt). Airborne living organisms such as bacteria and viruses pass through most filters like sand passes through a tennis racket. ALL●AIR™ Purifiers are designed to kill pathogenic microorganisms through DNA Sterilization and Photo-Oxidation destroying both biological and chemical contaminants, including odors .

25) Does UVC relate to UVGI?

The letters "UV" relates to the entire ultraviolet spectrum. This spectrum is broken down into four frequency ranges: Vacuum, Short Wave, Middle Wave and Long Wave or VUV, UVC, UVB & UVA. UVC is the frequency that is the most germicidal and the term UVGI refers to Ultraviolet Germicidal Irradiation as is used by Federal Agencies such OSHA, NIOSH and the CDC when directly referring to UVC.
